Which Era Is My Dacor? The 2016 Line That Changes Everything
Samsung acquired Dacor in September 2016, and the appliances changed underneath. A Dacor built before that date runs Dacor's own control boards and reports F-codes — F0 to F8 on Classic ERC ovens and ranges, F1 to F95 on ER-series ranges, F-1 to F-9 on EDW and IDW dishwashers. A Dacor built after it runs the Samsung platform and reports C-## strings on ovens and ranges, and letter pairs ending in C on dishwashers. The two eras do not share a single code string, and the same characters mean different things in each. The model number on the rating plate settles which you have: DOP, DOB, DRF, DRR, DRZ, DRW, DDW, DTI, DTG, DTT and DHD numbers are the current platform, while ER30D, EDW, IDW, DR30DNG and CM24P belong to the era before it.

Search for a Dacor error code and you will find three answers that contradict each other. That is not sloppy publishing — it is a real feature of this badge. F2 is a runaway heat condition on a Classic ERC wall oven, a communication problem between the control panel and the relay board on an ER-series range, and a touch-controller failure on a Modernist induction cooktop. Three appliances, three meanings, one string.
So the code alone is never the question. The question is which appliance and which era, and once you have those two facts the meaning is unambiguous.
What actually changed in September 2016
Samsung Electronics America announced the acquisition on 10 August 2016 and closed it the following month. Dacor kept its name, its line and its own site, and it is sold today as Samsung's ultra-premium subsidiary. Underneath, the electronics moved to the parent's platform.
That shows up in three places at once: the code family, the control board, and the part numbers. A supplier handed the wrong generation will sell you the wrong board perfectly happily, because on paper the request looks reasonable.
Where the plate is on each appliance
On refrigeration, inside the cabinet on the upper left wall. On a dishwasher, along the frame the door closes against. On a column, behind the base grille or the kick panel. On a wall oven, along the edge of the door or inside the frame. On a rangetop, underneath at the front edge, which usually means a torch and a mirror.
If the plate genuinely cannot be reached — and on a panel-ready column fitted tight into joinery it sometimes cannot — the original invoice or the kitchen paperwork will carry the model number.
Reading the model number
The current generation uses three letters beginning with D: DOP and DOB for ranges and wall ovens, DRF for French-door refrigerators, DRR for refrigerator columns, DRZ for freezer columns, DRW for wine, DDW for dishwashers, DTI and DTG for induction and gas cooktops, DTT for rangetops, DHD for hoods.
The earlier machines look nothing like that. ER30D, ER36D and ER48D are ranges. EDW and IDW are dishwashers. DR30DNG and DR30GS are Distinctive ranges. CM24P and CM24T are the built-in coffee systems, a platform that was discontinued without a successor.
What this changes about a repair
Three things, and they compound. The code table decides what the code means. The board decides what part is ordered. And on the legacy machines, availability decides whether the repair is possible at all — some boards are genuinely no longer made, and that is a conversation to have before labor is booked rather than after a visit that ends in an apology.
It is also why owners of pre-2016 Dacor appliances are so often told the machine cannot be fixed. Usually it can. What it needs is somebody holding the right table.

Does it mean my Dacor is really a Samsung?
No, and anybody who tells you that is oversimplifying. Dacor is run as Samsung's ultra-premium subsidiary with its own product line and its own site. What genuinely changed in 2016 is the electronics platform underneath: the code family, the control boards and the part-number formats. That is a service fact rather than a marketing one, and it is the reason the era matters when something goes wrong.
My kitchen was fitted in 2016. Which is it?
The plate settles it and nothing else does, because appliances sit in warehouses and showrooms for months. If the plate is unreachable behind fitted joinery, the model prefix in your paperwork or on the original invoice will do — the current generation's prefixes are three letters starting with D, and the older machines look nothing like them.
Is one era better than the other?
They are different rather than better. The legacy machines are heavy, well documented and repairable, with the caveat that some control boards are no longer made. The current machines have a broad parts channel and connect to an app. What matters practically is that a technician knows which one is in front of them.
