Symptom
Dacor door alarm chiming with the door shut
One of the four named alarms these cabinets have — there is no code behind it, just the chime and the app saying Door Open. When it sounds with the door visibly closed, the appliance is not confused: either the door is genuinely not sealing home, or the switch that reports its position has failed. The first is far more likely and often free to correct, and on a panel-ready door it is usually a hinge that has settled under the weight of a cabinet front.

Three ordinary causes
What this usually turns out to be
Cheapest and commonest first, which is also the order we check them in. They sit hundreds of dollars apart, and only the unit settles which one is yours.
-
The door is not reaching the seal
A hinge that has settled under a heavy panel, a shim that has dropped, or a cabinet that has moved slightly in its opening. The door looks shut and is not, and the alarm is right.
Door seal replacement from $165 -
Something inside is holding it
A drawer, a rack or a bottle proud by a few millimeters. The cheapest possible outcome and worth two minutes before anybody is called.
Glideracks and runner service from $119 -
The door switch has failed
The least common of the three and the easiest to test: if the interior light stays on with the door closed, the switch is the problem rather than the door.

Before you call anybody
None of it needs tools, and all of it makes the visit shorter.

01
Push the door and listen
If the alarm stops on a firm push, the door is the problem and not the sensor.
-
02
Watch the interior light
Light on with the door shut is a switch. Light off with the alarm still sounding is not.
-
03
Look for something proud inside
Drawers, racks and bottles. Free, and frequently the whole answer.
How it shows up
What people describe when they call
A shortcut
Narrow it down before anybody arrives
A description of the behaviour leaves a few possible causes. A code names the subsystem before anybody opens anything, which is why it is worth photographing before it clears.
If there is no code at all

About Dacor door alarm chiming with the door shut
What to do in the next ten minutes
Close the door firmly and watch whether the alarm stops — a door that needs a push is a door that is not closing on its own. Look for anything holding it: a drawer proud, a rack not home, a packet at the edge. Run a slip of paper round the seal. Note whether the interior light goes out when the door is shut, which tests the switch directly.
Why the alarm is worth having
A door left a few millimeters open overnight costs a column its temperature and, in this humidity, fills it with frost. The alarm exists because that is a genuinely expensive thing to miss, and a cabinet that cries wolf is still a cabinet telling you its door is not sealing.
Panel-ready doors settle
An ordinary refrigerator door weighs what the manufacturer designed for. A panel-ready one carries a cabinet front and a handle chosen by a kitchen designer, and hinges take that extra weight for years. When the alarm starts sounding on a cabinet that never used to, hinge settlement is the first thing we look at.

Questions about Dacor door alarm chiming with the door shut
Can I silence it?
Most of these cabinets let you mute the chime, and doing so removes the only thing telling you the door is open. If the door genuinely is not sealing, muting it is how a frosted cabinet happens.
It only does it in the evening.
That usually means the door is being opened more then and not quite closing afterwards, which points at the hinge rather than the switch.
