The cooktop will not recognize my pan.
Induction needs a magnetic base, and a fridge magnet is the whole test. If it does not stick, no repair will change that. A pan that used to work and now does not is a different matter.
Does a cracked surface have to be replaced?
Yes, and quickly. The glass is part of the appliance's insulation and its seal against spills, and a crack lets liquid reach the electronics underneath.
