What moves it

Why two of the same job cost different amounts

These apply at the same time and in both directions. Which of them is true of your kitchen is what the on-site diagnostic settles.

  • Hinge cable, spring or latch

Three parts along the same failure. A frayed cable and a tired spring both drop the door, and the latch is only the place it shows.

  • What the door front weighs

The springs are tensioned for a panel. A heavier front fitted later puts the door out within months and will do it again unless the tension is set for it.

  • Whether the release mechanism is involved

The door that opens itself at the end of a cycle is part of the drying system, and a release that fires mid-cycle is a different repair from one that never fires.

What we actually do

The job behind the figure: what it involves, when a symptom points at it, and what we check first.

  • The hinge and spring cable at the bottom corner of an open dishwasher door with its cabinet panel still fitted, a screwdriver resting on the frame.
    from $135

    Door, latch and AutoRelease repair

The door of a panel-ready dishwasher carries a cabinet front, and the springs and hinges are tensioned for that weight. When a panel is changed, or a hinge cable frays, the door drops, the latch stops meeting the strike, and the machine refuses to start — which reads as an electrical problem and is entirely mechanical. On the current machines the door is also part of the drying system: it releases itself a few inches at the end of a cycle, and a door that never releases or releases mid-cycle is a genuine problem rather than a habit.

    • A dropped door is mechanical, even though it presents as 'will not start'
    • Hinge springs and cables are tensioned for the weight of the cabinet panel
    • AutoRelease opening at the end of a cycle is correct behavior

About Dacor door, latch and AutoRelease repair cost

Why this figure is a from

A mechanical repair that presents as an electrical one, which is why it is priced modestly: the diagnosis is quick once somebody knows to look at the door with the cabinet panel on.

What we will not do

We do not quote a repair over the telephone from a description, and we do not publish a final price anywhere on this site. Both are the same rule. On this badge there is a second reason: almost everything this make sells is fitted into something — a column in a trim kit, a wall oven in a tall unit, a hood liner inside somebody else's millwork — and until the installation has been seen, half the estimate is missing. There is a third as well. This make changed hands in 2016, and an appliance from before that is a different repair with a different parts channel from one built after. We would rather establish both than guess at a number.

Questions about Dacor door, latch and AutoRelease repair cost

Why is it a from and not a price?

Because the same job is not the same work on two machines. On this badge there are two large variables before the part is even named: whether the appliance is captured by cabinetry, and which side of 2016 it was built. Either can change the hour, and the second can change the part number entirely. The exact cost is confirmed on site, in writing, before anything is opened.

Is the diagnostic on top of this?

The diagnostic is from $95 and it is credited toward the repair when you go ahead. Where the answer is that the machine is not worth fixing — or that a part for a discontinued platform is genuinely no longer made — you have paid for the answer and not for a part.
