Symptom

Dacor hood lights not working

The smallest hood problem and the most common call. LED modules in these hoods fail one at a time, so a single dark lamp is a module or its driver rather than a hood at the end of its life. A whole strip dark points at the driver or the supply instead. There is no code to read — the maker's own manual troubleshoots hood lighting in plain English, because the control panel has no display. A photograph of the hood from below usually decides what goes on the van.

Three ordinary causes

What this usually turns out to be

Cheapest and commonest first, which is also the order we check them in. They sit hundreds of dollars apart, and only the unit settles which one is yours.

In five minutes

Before you call anybody

None of it needs tools, and all of it makes the visit shorter.

  1. 01

    Count the dark lamps

One or all. That single number decides which part is likely.

  2. 02

    Remember whether they dimmed first

Gradual dimming is the driver announcing itself weeks in advance.

  3. 03

Check whether the fan still responds

It separates a supply problem from a lighting one.

How it shows up

What people describe when they call

  • “One dark lamp is a module; all dark is the driver or the supply”
  • “Dimming before failure points at the driver, not the lamps”
  • “A photo from below is usually enough to bring the right part”
A recessed brass handle on a dark oak appliance front photographed close, the shadow gap running away out of focus.

A shortcut

Narrow it down before anybody arrives

A description of the behaviour leaves a few possible causes. A code names the subsystem before anybody opens anything, which is why it is worth photographing before it clears.

About Dacor hood lights not working

What to do in the next ten minutes

Note how many lamps are affected and whether they dimmed before they went. Try every control including the one on the hood itself if there is also a remote. Check whether the fan still works, because lights and fan usually share a supply. Take a photograph of the hood from underneath with the filters in place.

Why this is worth a page at all

Because it is the problem people live with. A dark lamp over a range is a small daily annoyance that never quite justifies a call, and it stays dark for a year. It is one of the least expensive visits we do, and it is usually combined with a filter service so the trip earns its keep.

No code, and that is documented

Several sites publish NO-LIGHT as a Dacor hood error code. The manufacturer's own hood manual documents the identical symptom in plain English with no code anywhere in the document. We do not repeat invented strings, even harmless-looking ones.

Questions about Dacor hood lights not working

Can I change the lamp myself?

On some of these hoods the module is accessible from below and it is a reasonable job. On the liners it is usually easier from below as well. What is worth avoiding is buying modules before knowing whether the driver is the problem.

The lights flicker at high fan speed.

That points at the supply or the driver rather than the lamps, and it is worth mentioning when you call — it changes what we bring.
