# Dacor refrigerator not cooling

### What to do in the next ten minutes

Stand a thermometer in each compartment and write down both figures, then both again sixty minutes later. Open the base grille and look at the condenser behind it. If this is a column pair, note which of the two cabinets is wrong. Leave the food where it is and leave the cabinet running — a loaded cabinet holds temperature far better than an empty one.

### Why we ask for figures rather than a description

Nothing useful is displayed on the front of these cabinets. There is no code to read out, and the connected app reports named alarms rather than diagnostics — Self Check, Abnormally High Temperature, Door Open. What you can supply is two pairs of readings an hour apart, and those decide whether the visit needs a fan and a damper on the van, a defrost kit, or gauges. Three different appointments, settled before anybody drives anywhere.

### What being built in changes

Almost all of this line is panel-ready and fitted into joinery. That means one defined air route, usually through a grille at the base, and it means that bringing the cabinet forward is the expensive half of any visit that needs it. It is also why the free checks come first here: on a freestanding refrigerator a blocked condenser is unusual, and on a captured column it is the first thing to rule out.

Cold is not being carried across

The fan that moves air between compartments has slowed or stopped, or a damper is stuck. The freezer side carries on normally while the fresh-food side climbs, which is the commonest version of this complaint by a wide margin.

The defrost cycle is not finishing

Ice builds on the evaporator until air can no longer pass through it. In a full-height column that accumulation starts low and surfaces late, which is why owners describe it as having happened overnight when it has been happening for weeks.

Heat is not leaving the cabinet

A panel-ready cabinet breathes through one defined route, and in a coastal kitchen that route closes up with dust, grease and hair. The compressor then runs without pause and never quite wins, which imitates a failing sealed system exactly.

Two compartments, two thermometers, sixty minutes

Which half is failing decides everything that comes after, and it costs nothing but an hour.

Open the grille and look

A photograph of a blocked condenser explains a year of slowly rising temperatures better than any description can.

Say whether it is a French door or a column pair

One sealed system or two. The same complaint means opposite things on the two shapes.

It is running, the light works, and the food is warm

What it usually means

Freezer cold and fresh food warm means airflow, not refrigerant

There is no code to read — the app's named alarms are all the appliance will say

Check the grille before anything else: a captured column has one way to breathe

### Should I empty it?

Move anything genuinely perishable to a cooler once the fresh-food side passes 40 °F, and leave the rest. A loaded cabinet holds its temperature better than a bare one, so clearing it protects the food and does nothing for the machine.

### There is no error code. Is that normal?

On this make, yes. The refrigeration does not display error codes in either era — the manuals document four named alarms and no code table. Any site listing 5E or 21E for a Dacor refrigerator has taken them from another manufacturer's list.
