Starting the fan automatically is cheap insurance for the joinery, and it is why the behavior is in the manual rather than in a problem table.

### When to call

Cold range and the fan starts: call. Fan will not stop: call. Fan starts during a hard sear and stops afterwards: that is the hood being sensible, and nothing needs doing.

The overheat response is doing its job

Heat under the canopy past a threshold, and the hood starts itself. Common during a long roast or a hard sear, and not a problem in any sense.

The temperature sensor is reading high

A sensor fouled with grease reads warmer than the air around it and triggers the response with a cold range. Cleaning is the first answer and replacement the second.

The control or a remote is at problem

A touch panel with a key failing closed, or a remote sending on its own. Both produce a hood that runs when nobody asked it to.

Note what the range was doing

Hot range means the design; cold range means a problem. It is the whole question.

Try switching it off at the panel

A hood that refuses the command is a control problem rather than an overheat response.

Consider the remote

Wall controls and handsets fail closed and are easy to forget about.

### Should I turn it off at the breaker?

Not while the range is hot — the hood may be running for a reason. If it is running with everything cold and refuses to stop, the breaker is a reasonable temporary measure until it is seen.
