# Dacor freezer column running warm

### What to do in the next ten minutes

Put a thermometer in the middle drawer and read it twice, an hour apart. Look at the load: anything stacked against the vents at the back or the top of the compartment stops the air moving. Open the base grille and look at the condenser. Check whether Power Freeze has been left running, which will make the cabinet loud and hard-working without anything being wrong.

### Why a column is treated differently

On a French-door cabinet a freezer problem leaves you a working refrigerator. On a column pair it leaves you a warm cabinet with everything in it, and the food is usually worth more than the repair. That is why the free checks come first here and why we plan the visit around getting the cabinet back down to temperature the same day where the part allows it.

### Two ice makers, one cabinet

The narrow column packs two ice modules, two drawers and its own sealed system into eighteen inches. That density is a genuine engineering achievement and it is also why airflow inside the cabinet matters more here than in a larger box: there is very little spare room for air to find another way round a full drawer.

The air cannot circulate inside

A column filled past its internal vents goes cold at the top and soft at the bottom. It is the single most common finding on this complaint and the only one that is free to correct.

The cabinet cannot shed heat

One defined air path through the base or the top, closed up by dust and grease or covered by joinery. The compressor then runs continuously and never quite gets there.

The defrost or the fan has failed

Ice across the evaporator, or a fan that has stopped moving air over it. In a column the accumulation starts low and shows late, which is why this always seems sudden.

A thermometer in the middle drawer, twice

The display and the truth part company slowly, and only a measurement catches it early.

Look at how full it is and where

Vents at the back and the top of the compartment. Packets against them are the problem.

Check whether Power Freeze is on

It runs the cabinet hard on purpose and sounds exactly like something being wrong.

Soft ice cream, frost on the packets, and a cabinet that never rests

What it usually means

No second compartment — this one empties the cabinet if it is left

Overloaded drawers and a covered grille imitate a failing sealed system

Power Freeze running hard is a mode, not a problem

### How long do I have before the food is at risk?

A full column that has just started to drift will hold for hours rather than minutes, and a full one holds far longer than a half-empty one. If the middle drawer is above 10 °F and climbing, start moving what matters.

### Can I keep the door shut and wait?

Yes, and it is the right thing to do. Every opening costs the cabinet recovery it may not have. Read the thermometer through the glass of a phone photograph if you have to.
