# Dacor self-clean and door lock repair

### Problems cluster after a cleaning cycle for a reason

Pyrolytic cleaning is the hardest thing an oven ever does to itself, and it is where marginal parts give up: the door lock motor, the thermal fuse, the sensor at full temperature, occasionally the control. A door locked shut afterwards is the classic aftermath and an ordinary repair. We are also honest about the cycle itself — on equipment of this age and value there are ovens where a manual clean is the wiser choice, and we will say which ones.

What this involves

Self-clean is where marginal parts fail — that is why problems cluster after it

A door locked shut afterwards is an ordinary repair

We will tell you when not to run the cycle at all

Release the door safely

Cooled, unpowered, and through the mechanism rather than by force. Forced doors bend hinges and cost far more than the lock.

Find what the cycle took with it

Thermal fuse, sensor, lock motor and switch. Frequently more than one, and replacing a single part sends the customer straight back.

Test the whole cycle before leaving

Lock, heat, unlock. Half a test is how a locked door becomes a second visit.

### The door is locked and the oven is hot.

Wait. Nothing on this list matters more. A door forced while the cavity is hot bends hinges that cost several times the lock.

### Should I use self-clean at all?

On a sound oven, occasionally and at the right time — not the night before a dinner party. On an older cavity with a history of problems we will often recommend against it.
