### On a panel-ready door the seal is usually the symptom

These doors carry the weight of a cabinet front and its hardware, and hinges settle under that weight over years. The gasket then lifts away from the frame along one edge — usually the top — and the cabinet runs continuously to make up what it loses. Replacing the seal without correcting the door buys a few months, which is why both are done together or neither is. A gasket failing along one edge is a door problem; one perished all round is a gasket problem, and the paper test tells them apart in a minute.

Test the whole perimeter

Seat the new gasket properly

Warmed, seated into the channel all the way round, and closed for long enough to take its shape before the cabinet is loaded again.

### How do I test the seal myself?

Close the door on a slip of paper and pull. Do it at intervals all the way round: even drag everywhere is a good seal, and one slack spot names the edge that has lifted.

### Does a leaking seal really cost that much?

In this climate, yes. A cabinet fighting a humid kitchen through a gap runs its compressor far more than the specification assumes, and that is what shortens its life.
