# Dacor temperature sensor and calibration

### An oven that is wrong and cannot know it

Sensors drift with age, and a cavity reading itself warm will under-bake everything while insisting it is at temperature — and it will sail through every self-test the appliance can run, because the sensor is inside the loop doing the testing. Diagnosing it means an independent probe at rack height and a logged preheat: the overshoot and the settling band together say whether the cavity sits steadily wrong or swings widely around the right average, and those are different repairs.

The gap is what gets corrected. A cavity that swings widely and averages correctly is a different problem from one that sits steadily wrong.

Calibrate or replace, then re-log

And prove it with a second run rather than a claim.

### Is an oven thermometer on a shelf good enough?

It tells you something and not enough. A single reading at the beep misses the overshoot and the settling, which is where the diagnosis actually lives.

### Can it just be calibrated?

Where the cavity is steadily out by a consistent amount, yes, and that is a legitimate fix at no parts cost. Where it swings, an offset hides the problem and makes it harder to find later.
