### An oven bolted to a mechanism, and the mechanism fails first

A drawer that stops partway, will not open, or opens and immediately closes is a drive, a rail or an obstruction — and while that is unresolved the oven will refuse to heat, because the interlock chain is not satisfied. That refusal reads as a dead appliance and is the machine being careful. Small objects fall into the runner more often than anybody expects, and food debris hardens into something that behaves exactly like a failed drive, which is the cheapest outcome and the first thing checked.

Check the rails, the drive and the belt

Prove the interlock chain

Drawer closed, switches made, oven runs. All three, in that order, before the visit ends.

### The microwave will not run at all now.

That is expected while the drawer is not closing fully, and it is one problem rather than two. Once the mechanism is right the oven is almost always found to have been fine.

### Can I force it shut?

Please do not. The drive is the part that gives way when a stuck drawer is pushed, and it is the dearer of the two repairs.
