### Most ice complaints live upstream of the ice maker

The supply line runs behind cabinetry, the valve sits at the back of the machine, and the fill tube can partially freeze without ever stopping completely. In South Florida there is an additional factor: a valve fed hard water for years does not fail outright, it closes slowly and passes a trickle. That produces small, hollow cubes on both modules at once — a symptom people reasonably read as two failed ice makers, and one that is invisible to the eye and obvious on a measurement.

Measure the fill, do not estimate it

Volume and time into a cup. A valve that is passing half of what it should is invisible to the eye and obvious on a measure.

Check the line where it is hidden

Behind the column, through the cabinet and at every fitting. A line kinked during an installation years ago is a common and entirely fixable cause.

Replace the valve where scale has taken it

And say so plainly: on a cabinet fed hard water this is maintenance, not a defect in the appliance.

### How do you tell a weak valve from a broken module?

By measuring the fill: volume into a cup over a set time, against what the machine should deliver. A valve passing half of what it should looks perfectly normal.

### Would changing the filter help?

Often, and it is worth doing first. A filter years past its change presents identically to a failing valve and costs a fraction as much.
