# Dacor door, latch and AutoRelease repair

### A mechanical problem that presents as an electrical one

The door of a panel-ready dishwasher carries a cabinet front, and the springs and hinges are tensioned for that weight. When a panel is changed or a hinge cable frays, the door drops, the latch stops meeting the strike, and the machine refuses to start — which reads as a dead appliance and is entirely mechanical. On the current machines the door is also part of the drying system: it releases a few inches at the end of a cycle, and a door that never releases or releases mid-cycle is a genuine problem.

What this involves

A dropped door is mechanical, even though it presents as 'will not start'

Hinge springs and cables are tensioned for the weight of the cabinet panel

AutoRelease opening at the end of a cycle is correct behavior

Check the door's geometry loaded

With the panel on, not off. A door that sits square without its front tells you nothing about the machine in the kitchen.

Test the latch and the switch separately

A latch that engages and a switch that reports it are two claims. Most 'dead' dishwashers fail the second.

Confirm the release

That it opens at the end of the cycle and only then. Both failure directions are real problems.

### My dishwasher opens itself at the end of the cycle.

That is AutoRelease and it is the machine working — steam out, gentle drying, no heated element. It surprises people in the first week and then becomes the thing they miss on other machines.

### The machine is dead but the panel lights up.

Check the door before anything else. A latch that no longer engages leaves an appliance that looks alive and will not start, and it is a far smaller repair than it appears.
