# Dacor diagnostic visit

### Two answers, not one: what failed, and which Dacor failed it

Most diagnostics establish a problem. On this make the visit has to establish a generation as well, because a machine built before September 2016 runs Dacor's own control board and its own code table, and one built after runs the Samsung platform. The cabinets can look identical. The code table, the board and the part number are not, and a correct diagnosis handed the wrong generation buys the wrong part. So the plate is read before anything is opened, and the second half of the visit is instruments — temperatures against setpoints, supply under load, the problem reproduced rather than taken on trust.

What this involves

The era comes first — it decides the code table, the board and the part number

A written figure ahead of the work, credited against the repair

If mending it is the wrong call we say so, rather than selling a part

Read the plate before anything is opened

Inside the refrigerator's upper left wall, on the frame of a dishwasher door, behind the kick panel of a column. The model settles which parts will physically fit, and on this badge it also settles which of the two eras we are standing in front of.

Make the complaint happen rather than taking it on trust

A problem described is a problem half seen. We run the cycle, the zone or the burner that misbehaves, because the difference between a machine that fails from cold and one that fails after twenty minutes is usually the difference between two different parts.

Say what it will cost before touching it

A written figure, a plain explanation of what has failed, and — where the honest answer is that the repair is not worth it — that answer instead. On a discontinued platform we check the part exists before quoting labor for it.

### Do you need the model number before you come?

It helps more here than on most makes. The plate is inside the refrigerator on the upper left wall, on a dishwasher door frame, behind the kick panel of a column. If it is unreachable behind fitted joinery, roughly when the kitchen was installed is usually enough to place the era.

### What if the repair is not worth doing?

Then that is the answer you paid for, and the charge does not change. On a discontinued platform or an obsolete board we would rather say so at the diagnostic than after a part has been ordered.
