# Dacor built-in microwave repair

### Worth repairing, unlike its countertop cousin

A built-in or drawer microwave is fitted, matched to the kitchen and expensive to replace, and the usual problems are ordinary: doors and interlocks, control panels, turntable drives, cooling fans. The one symptom we ask people to stop using the appliance for is a machine that runs, lights and turns while producing no heat — that is the high-voltage side, and the capacitor in it holds a charge long after the plug is out. Routine for somebody equipped for it, genuinely dangerous otherwise.

What this involves

Fitted and matched — the economics are different from a countertop machine

Doors, interlocks, panels, turntable drives and fans are most of the work

Runs but does not heat: stop using it and call

Establish whether it heats at all

A measured load, timed. It separates the trivial problems from the one that matters.

Check the door and its interlocks

Three switches in sequence on most machines, and a door that has dropped will fail them in a particular order.

Work the high-voltage side only if it is the answer

Discharged, tested and replaced properly. This is the part of the appliance that earns the caution.

### It runs but nothing gets hot.

Stop using it and do not open it. The problem is on the high-voltage side, and that is the one part of a kitchen appliance that can hurt somebody after it is unplugged.

### Is a countertop machine worth fixing?

Usually not, out of warranty, and we will say so. That costs us the visit and it is the reason the advice on the built-in machines can be trusted.
