# Dacor refrigerators

### Panel-ready is the whole story

This make sells refrigeration that is meant to disappear. The French doors take cabinet panels; the columns are built to stand in pairs and be trimmed into a run. What we open is almost never an appliance somebody bought off a floor and pushed into a gap — it was drawn into a plan at the same time as the cabinetry, which is why the first questions are about the surround rather than the compressor.

### A column pair is two machines, not one

A refrigerator column and a freezer column standing side by side look like a single unit and are not. Each has its own sealed system, its own board and its own door. When one is wrong and the other is right, that is the most useful sentence a caller can give us, because it halves the diagnosis before anyone is dispatched.

### Why we ask the age of the kitchen first

The 2016 acquisition split this brand’s service history in two. A cabinet from before it speaks one problem language; one from after speaks another, and they share nothing. Nobody should have to know that — it is our job — but it is the reason the first question is about the renovation rather than the noise.

Panel-ready is the whole story

This make sells refrigeration that is meant to disappear. The French doors take cabinet panels; the columns are built to stand in pairs and be trimmed into a run. What we open is almost never an appliance somebody bought off a floor and pushed into a gap — it was drawn into a plan at the same time as the cabinetry, which is why the first questions are about the surround rather than the compressor.

A column pair is two machines, not one

A refrigerator column and a freezer column standing side by side look like a single unit and are not. Each has its own sealed system, its own board and its own door. When one is wrong and the other is right, that is the most useful sentence a caller can give us, because it halves the diagnosis before anyone is dispatched.

Why we ask the age of the kitchen first

The 2016 acquisition split this brand’s service history in two. A cabinet from before it speaks one problem language; one from after speaks another, and they share nothing. Nobody should have to know that — it is our job — but it is the reason the first question is about the renovation rather than the noise.

### One side is cold and the other is not.

Which side is wrong tells us where to start. On the French-door cabinets one sealed system serves both compartments and air is moved between them, so a single warm side is nearly always on the air path — a defrost cycle, a duct, a damper, the fan over the evaporator — rather than the compressor. On a column pair it is the opposite question: two cabinets, two systems, and a warm refrigerator beside a perfectly cold freezer means the problem is inside one column and the other is evidence, not a symptom.

### Does the cabinet have to come out?

Usually not, and we would rather establish that before the appointment than in your kitchen. A panel-ready cabinet is fitted flush and often screwed to the surrounding joinery, so pulling it is the expensive half of a visit. Most of what fails — sensors, dampers, fans, the ice module, a door seal — is reachable from the front with the panel off. We ask for the model number when the appointment is made so the part is on the van, because on a built-in cabinet the difference between one visit and two is entirely a question of having the right box.

### Is the refrigerator a Samsung underneath?

Dacor has been a wholly owned Samsung subsidiary since September 2016, and on the current generation that is a fact worth knowing rather than an insult: the problem-code language and parts formats changed at that line. It does not mean your Dacor is a relabelled Samsung, and we will not tell you it is. What it means practically is that the age of the cabinet decides which code table applies, which control board is inside, and which part number is correct — so the first thing we ask is how old the kitchen is.

### What is the FreshZone drawer actually doing?

It is a compartment with its own air path and its own sensor rather than a drawer borrowing cold from the shelves above it. That is why it can fail on its own while the rest of the cabinet holds temperature perfectly — an ordinary outcome, not a contradiction. We check the drawer's own damper and sensor before anything is said about the sealed system, and on this platform it is frequently a part rather than a failure of the machine.
